Assistant Financial Accountant

Are you degree-qualified in finance, accounting, or business and working towards ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent qualification?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join a successful business within their Finance team as an Assistant Financial Accountant. This highly technical role focuses on delivering financial reporting requirements for the Group, including tax preparation (VAT and corporation tax), accounting for tax payments, and managing related party transactions. You'll also contribute to statutory accounts preparation, regulatory filings, and provide support to the wider accounts team on projects and business development.

Key Responsibilities

Month-End and Ledger Management

  • Ensure robust ledger controls and meet month-end process deadlines.
  • Investigate and resolve system errors in ledgers.
  • Process intercompany recharges and manage related party transactions.
  • Reconcile intercompany balance sheets across the group.

VAT and Tax Reporting

  • Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of VAT returns for multiple legal entities (monthly, quarterly, annual).
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and file Intrastat and other regulatory reports.
  • Provide technical VAT support to the accounts team.

Statutory Accounts and Compliance

  • Review accrual and prepayment balances, ensuring accuracy and sufficient documentation.
  • Support balance sheet reconciliation reviews, addressing issues as they arise.
  • Assist in preparing statutory accounts, tax packs, and audit requests for year-end reporting.
  • Maintain and adhere to the Corporate Compliance Calendar for reporting deadlines.
  • Manage group transfer pricing and related tax documentation.

Regulatory and Group Filing

  • Ensure all tax submissions and external filings meet regulatory standards with a high level of accuracy.
  • Collaborate with local audit and tax advisors to provide required reconciliations and data.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualifications: Degree in finance, accounting, or business and part-qualified ACCA/CIMA or equivalent.
  • Experience: Background in retail or FMCG is advantageous but not essential.
  • Skills: Proactive and organised, capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines. Exceptional attention to detail with a continuous improvement mindset. Strong communication skills, able to explain complex accounting concepts clearly.
