Finance Director - 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract (Maternity Cover)


Accountable Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with a well-respected charity to appoint an experienced Finance Director on a 12-month fixed-term contract (maternity cover).


This is a fantastic opportunity to join a values-driven organisation and play a pivotal role in leading the finance function, ensuring sound financial management, governance, and compliance. You will report into the Chief Financial Officer and manage a finance team of 2 direct and 7 indirect reports. The role is primarily focused on the day-to-day running of finance while also supporting the wider organisation's strategic objectives.


Salary/benefits:

  • Negotiable, depending on experience
  • 12 month fixed-term contract (maternity cover)
  • Hybrid working available (must be North West Based)


Job Duties:

  • Lead the day-to-day management of the finance function.
  • Oversee preparation of management accounts, annual budgets, forecasts, and statutory accounts in line with charity SORP.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, audit, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and strengthen financial systems, processes, and controls.
  • Provide financial analysis, insight, and advice to support decision-making.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, supporting budget holders and the wider organisation.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors and regulators.
  • Lead, inspire, and support a finance team of 2 direct and 7 indirect reports.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Ideal experience:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role within the charity, not-for-profit, or healthcare sector.
  • Strong knowledge of charity accounting, compliance, and financial controls.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management ability.
  • A hands-on, adaptable approach with the ability to deliver both operational and strategic responsibilities.
