Assistant Accountant

Liverpool | Hybrid Working | Study Support Provided

Looking for a role that will accelerate your accounting career?

We're recruiting for an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join a growing and purpose-driven organisation based in Liverpool. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone studying towards an accounting qualification, or looking to continue their professional development, while gaining exposure to a broad range of management accounting and commercial finance responsibilities.

You'll work closely with an experienced finance team, gaining hands-on involvement in management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and business partnering activities. If you're looking for a position that offers genuine progression rather than simply processing transactions, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

This is a varied role that will give you exposure across multiple areas of finance, including:

  • Producing weekly management accounts, KPIs and supporting analysis
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Analysing financial performance and investigating variances against budgets and forecasts
  • Completing bank reconciliations and cash reconciliations
  • Preparing payroll analysis and associated journals
  • Managing accruals and prepayments
  • Producing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
  • Supporting annual budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Assisting with year-end audit requirements and liaising with auditors
  • Conducting internal audit reviews to strengthen financial controls
  • Preparing supporting information for taxation calculations and reporting
  • Working with stakeholders across the business to provide meaningful financial insight

About You

We're looking for someone who is motivated, eager to learn and keen to build a long-term career in finance.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience within an Assistant Accountant or similar role
  • Experience supporting or producing management accounts
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships across the business
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • The ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines

Qualifications

We welcome applications from candidates who are:

  • Studying AAT, ACCA or CIMA or desire to study

This organisation is committed to investing in its people and helping finance professionals reach their full potential.

Benefits include:

✅ Full study support for AAT, ACCA or CIMA
