Looking for a fully remote bookkeeping role where you can take genuine ownership of your clients without being micromanaged?
A growing, modern accountancy practice in Manchester, is looking to appoint an experienced Practice Bookkeeper to join its monthly accounts delivery team, paying £28,000 - £38,000 DOE. You'll manage an established portfolio of predominantly service-based SMEs, taking responsibility for their complete monthly bookkeeping cycle and preparing accurate month-end information for review.
This is a high-volume position suited to someone who is already comfortable managing multiple practice clients, organising competing deadlines and working independently. You'll receive a structured introduction to the portfolio, with the expectation that you'll take full ownership as you settle into the role.
Practice Bookkeeper Responsibilities:
- Managing a portfolio of approximately 40-60 monthly retainer clients, predominantly UK service-based businesses and agencies with turnovers between £200,000 and £2 million.
- Taking full responsibility for the monthly bookkeeping cycle across your portfolio.
- Completing bank and control account reconciliations accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Coding transactions and maintaining accurate accounting records.
- Preparing VAT workings across standard rate, flat-rate and cash-accounting schemes.
- Processing purchase and sales invoices using Dext and Apron.
- Producing accurate month-end bookkeeping packs ready for review.
- Managing multiple client deadlines and maintaining clear, organised records across the portfolio.
- Communicating directly with clients in a professional and helpful manner once fully established in the role.
- Working closely with the Monthly Pod Lead to resolve queries and maintain consistently high standards.
Practice Bookkeeper Attributes:
- At least three years' bookkeeping experience gained within a UK accountancy practice.
- Proven experience managing at least 30 bookkeeping clients simultaneously.
- Confident handling a fast-moving portfolio and taking responsibility for your own workload.
- Strong working knowledge of Xero and QuickBooks Online, with the ability to complete a full month-end process independently.
- Practical knowledge of UK VAT, including standard-rate, flat-rate and cash-accounting schemes.
- Experience using Dext and/or Apron for invoice processing.
- Experience with BrightManager, or the confidence to learn the system quickly.
- Strong written English and the confidence to communicate directly with clients.
- Able to work independently without requiring ongoing supervision once the initial training period is complete.
- AAT qualified or part-qualified would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Previous experience supporting agencies, service businesses or monthly retainer clients would be advantageous.
- The right to work in the UK.
- A suitable home workspace, reliable internet connection and your own laptop.
Practice Bookkeeper Benefits:
- Fully remote working anywhere within the UK.
- 37.5-hour working week, Monday to Friday.
- 25 days holiday entitlement plus bank holidays.
- Workplace pension through auto-enrolment.
- Exposure to growing agencies and service-based SMEs.
